Bought a tee that is really lengthy

We bought two sesame street tees. The first one seems too lengthy.

Its the correct size but guess it's the design n cutting. Lol. Looks like a skirt. We think that it should go with a pair of long pants.

So, we ended up changed him to wear the second design lol

Blue black dress or gold white dress

I don't really give a banana about this dress.

I care more about what outfit my son will be wearing when we head out.

Hands on Dads

In my opinion, being hands on dad is more than just changing diapers or bathing your babies.

Small little things like reading to your little one, putting him to sleep and even picking out a simple outfit etc etc....

I can bravely say that I'm really hands on.

Actually. Before Jaron was born, I did not expect I will be so into taking care of Jaron. But strange things happen to you when you realised you are a parent.

I just felt this responsibility to raise Jaron and BOOM! My brain started working.

When is his next feeding time? Did he pass motion today? What should he wear for tomorrow's visit to grandma's? Is he having fever? How long did he nap today? Which book should I read to him tonight?

All these questions start coming into my mind.

I just automatically started to b 100% hands on. Just like that.

Simple Chinese New Year Day 1

As my grandma passed away in Nov 2014, our family cannot visit relatives for 2015's Chinese New Year.

So today, we just had a simple family vegetarian breakfast at my mum's place.

Before setting off, in his pluto tee.

After lunchtime, I brought him to the playground located near our flat.

My preparation for Jaron's anti-mosquito defence.

I personally like to use the Tiger Balm Mosquito Repellent Patch as it is quite lasting, stronger smell and can last for a whole day. I would stick one of those on the back of his tee for the majority of protection.

As for the Watson's Mosquito Repellent Patch , it is not lasting as the Tiger Balm ones, but they are much much cheaper. So I will use those to stick under his sleeves and shorts for additional protection.

Consolidated Post: Takashimaya & Jaron's CNY costume for school celebration

Happy Chinese New Year to everyone! Huat ah!

Unfortunately, we are unable to celebrate CNY this year. Due to the passing of my grandmother during the end of December last year.

This week, we were mostly on leave as my mother in law went back home to prepare for CNY. So on Monday 16th Feb 2015, we took the chance to go to Takashimaya / Ngee Ann City for some much needed shopping.

First, we went to Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao for lunch. Having went to the Crystal Jade Palace Restaurant previously, I am quite confident that this outlet will be quite spacious.

As we reached the entrance of the restaurant, we were promptly greeted and asked whether we need a baby chair when they saw Jaron. We asked for a baby chair and we were guided to our seats and where we can place his stroller. (some restaurants' staff do not bother to guide/assist even though we struggle to find an area to place the stroller)

It is spacious inside and we were able to walk in comfortably despite my big belly.

We were seated near the corner and there's plenty of space. I did not even need to push the table out to accommodate my big belly!

Plenty of spaces behind so its easier for us to put and remove him from the baby chair

So after lunch, we went to shop for a jacket for Jaron. Now, not that we do not want to buy a jacket for him after so long, but Jaron tends to feel warm easily growing up, so most of the time a jacket is not required.

But the school requested us to put one in his bag, in cases when he feels cold, so we have to get one. We can bring the jacket out anyway for just in cases.

We shopped around at Children's Wear @ Level 4 of the Takashimaya Department Store, trying desperately to not go to the toys area, lol. We finally settled with this one after comparing prices and this seems to be more "wu hua".

After shopping for Jaron's jacket, my wife's handbag and my perfume, we decided to head to TWG Tea @ Level 2 Takashimaya Department Store to drink some tea and take a short break before we head home.

As we reached the cafe, we were greeted promptly and guided inside, The staff did not offer a baby chair as they saw Jaron, So we asked for one. It turns out that they do not have baby chairs. I was a bit surprised as most restaurants / cafes have them, even The Prata Place has them.

Anyways, its good that at least the chairs are armchairs so Jaron still can sit in them safely. Its also quite spacious inside. And as I struggled to find an area to put his stroller, I was not guided by the staff. So I just gestured to the staff to help to take one chair away so I can place it beside me.

I ordered a Chocolate fudge, which is served with a Singapore Breakfast Tea ice cream. The fudge is quite hard, I had to use a knife to cut it. Its a little bit too sweet for my liking, but the ice cream is nice. The taste of the tea is not overpowering and pretty refreshing.

On Tuesday 17th Feb 2015, Jaron went to school for CNY celebration. Great that he made it in time as he recovered from his illness.

Happy CNY to everyone and hope all kids stay healthy!

Child and Baby friendly and Belly-Awesome-ness

If some of you parents did not know yet, my daddy blog is inspired by my kaypoh-ness to my son and my big belly.

So naturally, when I go to restaurants / cafes with my family, I tend to go to places that are less crowded or more spacious. So my family can eat comfortably without worrying about tight spaces and bumping into others.

So today we had a small outing to Zhongshan Mall at Ah Hood Road (near Balestier Road). We will go there to do our groceries at NTUC Finest and usually have our breakfast.

We had our breakfast at Toast Box. The Toast Box outlet at Zhongshan Mall is quite spacious and spaces between tables are generous.

Hello Kitty is my wife's

Usually we will try to sit him in a booth at the corner, so he would not fuss sitting on a baby chair. But even if we were to use a baby chair, we would be comfortable sitting there too.

As you can see in the photo, Jaron sat comfortably and even get to do his "Wheels on the bus dance" watching the video.

The space in between is still quite adequate despite me pushing the table outwards to cater to my big belly.

Belly Awesome.

Looks like someone is recovering well :)

So I was humming to The Beatles - I Want to hold your hand.

And this little fella was so excited that he kept asking me to sing it to him.

I played the song and he did this.

Recovering eh? ..... well done boy... well done.....

Still sick

Jaron has been sick for one week plus already.

From fever, running nose and cough -> only running nose and cough -> now feverish and cough

This is the second wave since he had started school this year.

He is taken care of in our flat by my mother in law. So he is not in child care.

Recently, he started in pre-nursery, only for 2 hours per weekday. And he is now on the second wave of viral attack.

In Jaron's defence, the pink cover is my wife's.

During the first wave, we took him to PD Dr Ang Poon Liat at Thomson Medical Centre (TMC). Dr Ang was his PD when he was a new born at TMC.

Since he had fever, Dr Ang Poon Liat wanted him to do a blood test (guess what? just to check whether he had infection and needed antibiotics).

Our bill came up to $300. Blood test itself is already $100+.

As he goes to school and starts building his immune system, how many times can we afford $300 per medical bill?

(Even though we can use the CDA account to pay for it, which essentially meant that we had paid $150 or so).

Now, Dr Ang is an experienced and patient PD, he always explain Jaron's condition patiently to us and I never doubt his diagnosis. But to do a $100+ blood test per visit per fever seems a bit excessive.

Jaron recovered and went to school again. After two weeks, the second wave started, he exactly had the same symptoms and having a mild fever this time, rather than in the first wave when he had a 38.5degrees + - fever.

In view of the $100+ blood test at TMC and some advice from our neighbours, we decided to bring him to a GP at EJ Family Clinic & Surgery.

The GP is pretty patient and good with kids but the clinic is always crowded, the medical bill came up to $46.

However, this time, after finishing his antibiotic, he recovered from his fever but failed to recover from his cough. So we brought him back to the PD Dr Ang.

Since there is no fever this time round, the blood test was not required. Dr Ang told us that his cough is due to allergy, so he prescribed a "Weezing Cough" clear syrup, "Allergy" orange syrup and some sachets of powder to mix in water (we think is for his phlegm and to be completed). And he was nubulized once at the clinic. The medical bill came up to $200.

I have heard stories of certain doctors having the "magic touch" for particular kids. Just like when my nephew had to visit a certain GP to recover from illnesses. Other GPs will not be able to cure him.

Maybe Dr Ang has the magic touch for Jaron. ZZZ.

Fingers crossed as he seems to cough less now. Still feverish, hovering around 37.2-37.5 degrees but he is getting better!

Hope he can make it in time for his school's CNY Celebration!

He was busy watching his favourite cartoon and gave me a fake-ish smile when I told him to smile for the camera.

PD Dr Ang Poon Liat from TMC is quite experienced and good. But he is semi-retired.

If you have decided to engage him as your new-born's PD please note that:

  • He is only around in the morning till around 12pm+. I think he is not around on Sundays.
  • If you give birth in TMC outside his semi-retired working hours, his daughter (I think, since she is also Dr Ang), Dr Ang Ai Tin will be the PD for your new born.
  • His vaccination schedule is different from other PDs. Usually, new borns will take a Hep B jab at TMC before they are released.
  • But new borns under him will not take the jab until 1 month later or so due to his vaccination   package. Both Dr Ang Poon Liat and Dr Ang Ai Tin did not inform us when my son was released from TMC.

PLEASE TAKE NOTE!

Belly First Post

Just a simple first post to start off this blog, let me do a simple introduction.

I am a Dad to a toddler boy named Jaron and another baby on the way in August 2015. And a husband to my lovely wife Sabelle for 3 years.

It has been 2 years 3 months and 10 days since our son was born.

Being a parent is quite a journey.

I have to help to deal with things such as discipline, "toys-management", school, books, etc etc...

I am also pretty kaypoh to things to do with the well being and upbringing of my son.

Well, enough of typing, here is my son Jaron.

(P/S: I love his chubby cheeks so much, I have to pinch it once everyday. :) )

See you around!
